Beck vs. Will Ferrell

Move over Eric Schmidt, it looks like Beck’s taking over the Internet!

In previous posts, we’ve written about Beck’s incredible new web endeavors, from his Record Club covers to his Planned Obsolescence mixtapes to his Videoteque acoustic series. Did we mention he’s doing interviews now, too?

The “Irrelevant Topics” interview series started with Tom Waits, but Beck appears to have hit his stride interviewing funnyman Will Ferrell (Elf, Land of the Lost, You’re Welcome America). Beck introduces the interview by saying they met 12 years ago at Saturday Night Live when Ferrell was a newbie and the LA singer was promoting his Odelay album. That day, Beck got talked into doing a skit with the actor, and they worked together again in 2005 for a Tsunami relieft benefit. This time, the two caught up for this online interview that offers no shortage of laughs.

Topics include recollections of Ferrell gyrating against Beck’s harmonium during the tsunami benefit concert, wearing unitards that go over your head, about getting rejected by Cirque du Soleil and recalling the Wilson’s House of Suede and Leather commercials as a kid. Enough summarizing, here’s the interview itself.
