Bergdorf’s: Your Luxury Source for Warm and Fuzzies

Bergdorf GoodmanMarc by Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Phillip Lim, See by Chloe, Elizabeth and James … sound like your idea of heaven? (Or at least what closets in heaven are filled with?)

If so, you’ve probably blown your budget at least once in 5F, Bergdorf Goodman’s floor-sized department of trendy and irresistible goodies. From alice+olivia to Y Yigal. 5F and its selection of clothes, shoes and accessories is simply a mecca of everything “it,” with prices that sometimes feel like a splurge with a capital S.

Now through Saturday, you can shop at 5F, score a great deal, and help people in need at the same time. When you stop by and donate $40 to City Harvest — a nonprofit that feeds more than a quarter of a million New Yorkers each week — the Bergdorf folks will hand you a 30 percent discount card to use on any full priced items on the floor. Yes, it’s true: You can pick up an entire spring/summer wardrobe of designer duds, or just a cool pair of Repetto ballet flats, for nearly a third off.

Since City Harvest could use the help — particularly in light of the economy — it’s worth mentioning that Wednesday is Skip Lunch Fight Hunger Day. That afternoon, New Yorkers are encouraged to donate one day’s lunch money to feed the hungry. If you need that extra enabling nudge to use your 30 percent discount on Tom Ford sunglasses or Tory Burch sandals, think about how cute they’ll look as you spend your lunch hour strolling around instead of going out for a sandwich.

And if you don’t live in New York, you can still get this deal: Neiman Marcus (which is affiliated with Bergdorf Goodman) is offering the same discount-with-donation promotion in its contemporary sportswear departments nationwide, with the money raised going to Feeding America. So you can feel good about shopping ’til you drop … at least until your credit card bill arrives.
