Best Tunes for Your Workout

ipodexercise.jpgAh, the few sweet days that remain before those resolutions kick in.

They are a varied bunch, the resolutions, but many of them, dare I say, more than a lot, involve this old chestnut: resolving to lose weight.

It’s a good one, as far as resolutions go because it improves your health, as well as boosts your self-esteem. Though going about it with a quick fix (restrictive diet programs, pills or chalky “meal replacement” shakes) isn’t the best way (just ask Oprah.)

A healthy meal plan and daily exercise is a more sensible way to go about it and remember slow and steady wins the race, though your music for your workout needn’t be.

Fitness magazine has compiled a list of the Top 100 Songs of the Year for your workout playlist, which they have even broken down into categories of beats per minute. So if you’re into, for example:

  • Running, 160+ beats per minute: “Run This Town,” Jay-Z
  • Stairclimbing, 140 to 160 beats per minute: “Love Drunk,” Boys Like Girls
  • Brisk walking, 125 to 140 beats per minute: “I Gotta Feeling” Black Eyed Peas
  • Walking, 105 to 125 beats per minute: “Good Girls Go Bad” Cobra Starship with Leighton Meester
  • Yoga, 60 to 115 beats per minute: “By Twos” Yo La Tengo.

Click here for the  full list, which is varied, so you can pick and choose to make your own personal playlist.

With all the fun you’ll have listening to your new tunes, let’s hope those resolutions stick!
