Bette Midler, 50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson), and Dolly Parton — it’s not often that those three names are mentioned in the same article, and it’s even more rare that the three entertainers would join together to co-chair an event together.
And while I’m not anticipating Bette and Dolly to join in on a remix of “Candy Shop,” I do think it’s a safe bet that anyone who attends Midler’s annual Spring Picnic to be thoroughly entertained. After all, the invitation does promise a sing-along with the Divine Miss M!
The Spring Picnic, happening this evening in New York City, benefits the New York Restoration Project, which Midler founded 14 years ago to bring more nature into the city. The organization is committed to the belief that “clean, green neighborhoods are fundamental to the quality of life, and that every community in New York City deserves an oasis of natural beauty.” Seeing many parks and open spaces in dire need of cleanup and restoration, Ms. Midler created NYRP to be the “conservancy of forgotten places,” particularly in New York City’s underserved communities.”
The picnic, consisting of cocktails, dinner, and the aforementioned sing-along, isn’t the only event currently happening in the name of the NYRP. In order to raise attention (and funds) for the event and organization, Midler organized an online auction with some pretty amazing prizes.
A short list of incentives includes the chance to meet and have lunch with Hugh Jackman, front row tix to Elton John and Billy Joel, movie premiere invitations, and the opportunity to meet a selection of stars like Cher, John Stamos, LeAnn Rimes, Nathan Lane and more!
Of course, such incredible auction items don’t come cheap — Hugh Jackman is currently going for more than $10,000, so start saving your pennies now, because the bidding will continue until June 10.
