Big Winners and Bigger Dresses at the Country Music Awards

4535037682_8d2a4e06f1_z.jpgCo-hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley offered up good music and great laughs at last night’s Country Music Awards. They kept the evening flowing with spoofs of current events and fellow nominees. In a moment that had the entire audience snickering, Paisley quipped, “Gwyneth, I’ve always wanted to ask you something: Can you get me two Coldplay tickets?”? Underwood followed with, “Can you make it four?” in a plea to performer Gwyneth Paltrow to score some tickets from her rocker hubby, Chris Martin.

All in all, Nashville’s biggest night was an evening of heart-warming tributes, flowing dresses and show-stopping musical performances.

In one of the more astounding moments of the evening, Gwyneth Paltrow (who looked stunning in a black dress) took down the house with her musical performance promoting her new movie, Country Strong. (Not only did she sing beautifully, she also played the guitar!) For a New Yorker living in London, Gwyneth broke out in a country twang that should silence any critic.

The night’s biggest winners were birthday girl Miranda Lambert who took home the awards for Best Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year, and her fiancé, Blake Shelton, took home the trophy for Male Vocalist of the Year. Upon receiving her award from country icon Loretta Lynn, People magazine reported that Lambert said, “The woman that paved the way for all females, ever, in country music is standing here beside me and handed me this award … I’m going to keep going for the other women in this industry.”
