She’s 22. She’s married to one of the top tennis players in the world and she does worthy work promoting women’s fitness, animal welfare, and more. Life was already pretty sweet for model Brooklyn Decker. But this week she’s revealing even more exciting news: she’s the 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl.
“My mom cried,” Decker told People magazine of the news. “We’re all on pins and needles before the issue comes out, because the cover is something all the girls want so badly…So it’s nice for my family because they don’t have to stress about it anymore.”
Decker received the coveted spot after posing for the issue for the past five years. And even though she appears tastefully topless — strategically covering her lady parts while holding the top of her yellow Delfina bikini — she says husband and tennis champ Andy Roddick isn’t the least bit worried about the extra attention the cover shot might attract.
“He’s so proud. I think this gives him a one-up in the locker room for the next year or so,” she told People.
But don’t think Decker is just another pretty face. The model is committed to several causes, including the ASPCA, where she told Stylelist last fall at an ASPCA benefit that she made plans to volunteer at a New York City ASPCA shelter and do things including “change poopy sheets.”
She also teamed up with Elle magazine to produce the Make Better DVD series to promote women’s fitness and nutrition. And for obvious reasons she is a staunch supporter of the Andy Roddick Foundation, which provides educational and economic opportunities for needy kids.
Decker follows in the footsteps of a host of former SI swimsuit models who have donated their time and money to charitable causes, including Gisele Bundchen, who recently pledged a whopping $1.5 million toward Haiti relief.
So Decker, like SI models before her, proves that she not only has a beautiful body, but a beautiful heart, too.
