Rumor has it social networking site Facebook could be worth up to $10 billion, according to the Huffington Post. Seems like an astronomical figure until you realize just how addictive the social networking site is. Its users have a compulsive need to post status updates – even at the most inopportune times.
The UK’s Telegraph reports that a man in Rome was caught burglarizing a house because he stopped in the middle of the theft to post status updates on his Facebook wall. No, he wasn’t stupid enough to post that he was in the midst of committing a crime, but his updates left enough of a trace for cops to catch him.
Turns out, the 52-year-old homeowner is one of the few people left in the world not on Facebook, but found his computer’s Web page opened to the site. Police concluded the last user was the thief and were able to retrace his cyber steps and eventually catch him.
Note to burglar: We didn’t need to hear your take on the Kanye West meme from the VMAs.
