I rode the bus for years growing up in Hawaii, doing so regularly enough that I even got to know some of the bus drivers relatively well. What I don’t remember was having knowledge of when any of them were born. Apparently, it’s different in Denmark.
Mukhtar is a bus driver in Copenhagen. May 5 was his 41st birthday and he was planning to take the day off. But a friend asked him to help out, so he did the friend a solid and showed up for work. There was certainly no way he could have expected what would happen to him that day, but suffice it to say, it made all of us here at Tonic smile almost as widely as he did.
OK, so maybe it’s all part of a five-week campaign by the nation’s bus companies, but that doesn’t make it any less special for Mukhtar, who now has a birthday he’ll never forget.
