‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Contestants Catfight for a Good Cause

Did you catch the premiere of Celebrity Apprentice last night on NBC? Semi-spoiler alert: it was two hours of minor celebrities acting like children! There’s no shame in watching, though, since each star is vying for Donald Trump’s affections on behalf of a favorite charity. If they win, $250,000 will go to the charity, and not to their Maserati fund. See if any causes close to your heart are in the running.

— Gary Busey is playing for The Center for Head Injury Services. He suffered his own head injury in a motorcycle crash in 1988 (which might explain his odd behavior).

— Baseball slugger (and steroid whistleblower) Jose Canseco supports the Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T.), which contributes to baseball players in need who aren’t making millions per year.

— Former teen idol David Cassidy chose The Alzheimer’s Research & Prevention Foundation to honor his grandfather and mother, both of whom were afflicted with the disease.

— Hope Dworaczyk, the 2010 Playboy Playmate of the Year supports Best Buddies, which pair disabled children with mentors who help them acquire life skills. Dworaczyk has two “Best Buddies.”

— Original Survivor winner Richard Hatch is supporting Grassroot Soccer, an organization that uses soccer stars to spread awareness about AIDS in Africa.

— LaToya Jackson is playing for AIDS Project L.A., an organization her late brother Michael supported.

— Rapper Lil Jon is supporting the The United Methodist Children’s Home of North Georgia Conference. He grew up with foster children and wants to give back to the shelter for foster kids and their families.

— Star Jones is playing for The American Heart Association, an organization she appreciates more than ever after her recent heart surgery.

— Real Housewife of Atlanta NeNe Leakes chose the Atlanta Union Mission in Support of My Sister’s House for Women Against Domestic Abuse. She has spoken publicly about being a survivor of an abusive relationship.

— Meat Loaf would do anything for love and anything for The Painted Turtle, a camp for seriously ill children and their siblings that he has visited many times.

— Oscar-winner and deaf icon Marlee Matlin is supporting The Starkey Hearing Foundation. The organization provides more than 20,000 hearing aids to disadvantaged people around the world each year.

— Sugar Ray singer and TV host Mark McGrath chose to play for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation to make sure school children have the same opportunities he did.

— John Rich of the rebellious country group Big & Rich decided to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He first played music for the children there about 15 years ago.

— Lisa Rinna chose the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund because both her mother and sister were diagnosed with cancer.

— Model Niki Taylor supports the American Red Cross. After a car crash in 2001, blood donations from the Red Cross saved Taylor’s life.

— Dionne Warwick is playing for The Hunger Project, which feeds the hungry in Africa, South Asia and Latin America. She has been a global ambassador for the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization for almost a decade.
