On Wednesday Yulianna Avdeeva, 25, from Russia became the first woman to win the 2010 International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in 45 years (it’s held every five years). Eighty-one young pianists from 23 countries around the globe came to Warsaw, Poland for the event, which also coincided with the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth in 1810.

Avdeeva performed Chopin’s Concerto in E minor on Tuesday for the final round, leaving the entire audience in tears. Voted by a panel as the winner, she will receive $42,000 (30,000 euros), the honor to play at the New York Philharmonic and a gold medal. Watch her final performance below.
