Christina Aguilera Continues Her Quest To Fight World Hunger

Since beginning her work as the new spokesperson for the annual hunger relief campaign of Yum Brands (the world’s largest restaurant company and parent of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell), Christina Aguilera has plunged herself into making an impact.

“After having (son) Max, I really took some time to stop and think about how I could give back and help, especially when it came to children,” Aguilera said in a statement via the UN, adding “As a mother, I think it’s unacceptable that even one child would go hungry, and I want to do something about it.” Wanting to see the impact of hunger, she recently traveled to Guatemala to meet with families who benefit from the nutrition programs.

With husband Jordan Bratman, Aguilera toured a tiny village in the Guatemalan highlands where she witnessed first hand the shame of the country: 80 percent of the children are malnourished — the fourth highest child malnutrition rate in the world.

“The people of WFP do such a great job helping hungry children and mothers,” said Aguilera. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful project and incredible team.”

So far, World Hunger Relief has raised $36 million for the United Nations‘ World Food Program and other hunger relief organizations. “One of the biggest lessons I’m taking away from this trip is the importance of healthy food.” Aguilera said while in Guatemala, adding “If a child under two doesn’t get the nutrients they need, we can never fix the damage later on.”

Here’s a video of Aguilera’s PSA. In it, she sings an incredible version of her hit “Beautiful” from her album “Stripped” acoustically.
