George Clooney Acts Out Real Life Spy Fantasies in Sudan
George Clooney’s organization, Not On Our Watch, has teamed up with the United Nations and Google to monitor violence in Sudan during the January vote that could split the country in two.
The three organizations will use satellite images to monitor hotspots and identify potential areas of threat, according to CNN International.
“We want to let potential perpetrators of genocide and other war crimes know that we’re watching, the world is watching,” Clooney said in a statement. ”War criminals thrive in the dark. It’s a lot harder to commit mass atrocities in the glare of the media spotlight.”
Clooney adds that he hopes to implement an early warning system to head off the next humanitarian crisis before it can begin.
“We were late to Rwanda. We were late to the Congo. We were late to Darfur. There is no time to wait. With your support, we will swiftly call the world to witness and respond. We aim to provide an ever more effective early-warning system: better, faster visual evidence and on-the-ground reporting of human rights concerns to facilitate better, faster responses,” Clooney said.
“This is why we have launched the Satellite Sentinel Project. There has never been a sustained effort to systematically monitor potential hot spots and threats to human security, in near real-time, with the aim of heading off humanitarian disaster and war crimes before they occur.”
The project went live today and can be viewed at the Satellite Sentinel Project web page.

Of Course You Want Sandra Bullock at Your New Year’s Party (We Do Too!)
She became a mom, won an Oscar and was named People’s Most Intriguing Newsmaker of the Year, so it should come as no surprise that, according to a Bing survey, 48 percent of respondents want Sandra Bullock to join them for dinner.
Sandy beat out other celebs by a landslide. Kim Kardashian may have been the most searched for person on Bing in 2010, but only eight percent of respondents wanted Kim at their New Year’s Eve dinner.
Interestingly, it’s the ladies who are 2.5 times more likely to want to chow down with Sandra than with Barack Obama. The survey showed that 56 percent of female respondents want Sandy as a dinner guest and only 22 percent would invite the president.
