‘Larry King Live’ and TNC Team Up For Gulf Coast Telethon Tonight

494px-larry_king.jpgIs soccer not your (world) cup of tea? Already weary of reruns? Well, tonight you can take the opportunity to watch TV for a great cause. Beginning at 8:00 pm EST, CNN’s Larry King Live and The Nature Conservancy are teaming up to bring a live, 2-hour Gulf Coast Relief Telethon to raise funds for support of relief and restoration initiatives along the Gulf Coast region impacted by the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has set up the Fund for Gulf Coast Restoration, representing a significant and obviously necessary expansion of long-running project work that TNC has undertaken in the region. Learn more about the organization’s plans for coming to the gulf’s aid at their Gulf oil spill response website. Funding raised by tonight’s telethon will be dedicated to supporting the recovery of such critical ecosystems as oyster beds, wetlands and estuaries. And this evening’s event will be supported by the talent, energy and compassion of such stars as Sting, Kathy Griffin and Robert Redford among others.

In addition to tuning in this evening and, if you can, to making a donation to the cause, TNC reminds us of several ways to stay informed and engaged in this important and time-critical set of processes:

  • RSVP to the event on their Facebook page, and prompt your friends to follow suit.
  • Check in for regular updates and status reports at the TNC spill response blog.
  • Do you have your own thoughts and updates relating to the gulf spill? Post them to Facebook and Twitter, and use the hash tags #CNNHelpGulf and #oilspill.
