
When your first name’s Jolly, you’ve got two options: to be ironic or to be literal. Jolly Harkins of Georgetown, Texas chose the latter. Everyday, the 94-year-old makes a Starbucks run, but he’s not addicted to java — Harkins’ kindness comes naturally. No, the World War II veteran is bringing 20 pounds of the good stuff to his son’s farm for composting.
“He even comes in the rain,” said Tiffany Terwillegar, an assistant manager at the Starbucks on Austin Avenue. “Everyone worries if he’s not here and wonders if he’s sick.”
And what good comes of those recycled grounds? A closer father-son relationship and beautiful pomegranate trees and vegetables.
“They love Starbucks,” Harkins said.
