Ship Sinks, But Everyone Onboard Rescued

800px-concordia_i_srlandet_5.jpgCNN reported that a Canadian ship sank 300 miles off the Brazilian coast on Thursday. The ship, named the  Concordia, was traveling from Recife, Brazil, and heading toward Montevideo, Uruguay, where it was supposed to arrive on Feb. 25. And how is this good news, you’re wondering? Well, all 64 people onboard, which included the crew, a group of students and teachers, were rescued.

The West Island College Class Afloat program, which is based in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, offers high school and university credit for students who get to travel the world. As the website reads, the students are involved in academic study while “engaging in sensitive and sustainable practices, developing leadership skills and raising cross-cultural awareness.”

The 187-foot ship was designed and built specifically for the program back in 1992 and had already been to Africa and Europe.

What we do know is that everyone is alive and well, which is the news their family members wanted desperately to hear.
