Last night, ABC brought together two powerhouses to construct the ultimate home for a deserving family. The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew and Dancing With the Stars professional dancers whipped the Arboleda abode into shape.
The Arboledas have five children, which is why their family business, Move to the Groove, is so dear to their hearts. However, for such a large family, their Wisconsin home wasn’t big enough to contain all their energy.
“Rhex, the father, is a musician and he wrote the song for this program, Move to the Groove,” DWTS dancer Derek Hough told The Insider. “The concept was to fight childhood obesity. The whole family has the most amazing energy and were hilarious. It reminded me of my family growing up. We all had a lot of energy and were dancing around and performing. Each one had their own character. It was so individual. Just brilliant kids. It was a fantastic family. When we went to their house, the energy of the family and the light that shone through them wasn’t a match to their house. Their house was very dark and small for seven people. It was awesome to build a home that matched their energy.”
How good were ballroom dancers at handling power tools? Let’s just say they looked good while doing it. All of the DWTS cast arrived to work in outfits that could double as the wardrobe to Olivia Newton-John‘s “Let’s Get Physical” music video. But both the construction and the dance crews had a lot of fun while doing good. As for the Arboledas, they’re loving their new two-story house and continuing to write music and choreograph dances that get kids into the groove.
“Mr. Arboleda knows that he’s never going to make a million teaching children, but that’s not what’s important to him,” said school principal Eleanor Healy.
Getting kids active, is.
