Celebrating the Wise Men on the Day of Epiphany

ephipany.jpg

Today, Jan. 6, marks the 12th day after Christmas. For many Christians, it’s also the day of Epiphany or Three Kings Day, the Washington Post explains.

According to the Bible, today marks when the magi, or three wise men, came to visit and bring gifts for the newborn baby Jesus.

The holiday is celebrated in different ways across the world. In Barcelona, for example, a parade is held and kids open presents. Orthodox priests bless a cross and toss it into a body of water and people dive in and race to retrieve it.

In other cultures it’s thought to be bad luck if the Christmas tree stays up past the 12th day, so you may find an excessive amount of trees in the trash today.
