
Taking a boat into the middle of the ocean and scooping oil with your bare hands is not the only way to show your support for the oil spill recovery.
Many people around the country are using their smarts and resources to send aid from afar in fun, easy ways. Here are a few examples of how people are raising money for Gulf Coast fishermen whose lives have been disrupted by the spill.
1. The nonprofit group Environment America started a campaign to urge supporters to hold gumbo parties for their friends.
2. A woman from Dallas is using Facebook to encourage children to donate money from lemonade stands to the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
3. The Abita Brewing Company in Louisiana will donate 75 cents per 22-ounce bottle, or $9 for each case of beer sold of their new beer, SOS (Save Our Shares).
