The famous designer and vegetarian Stella McCartney has designed a second line of children’s clothing for GapKids, which debuts in select stores early this month. This time, though, McCartney offers t-shirts specifically to raise awareness for her campaign Meat Free Monday, which is similar to the Meatless Monday organization here in the states.
The designs are printed on organic cotton shirts. One features a signature superhero graphic while the other boats a leopard design.
The designer aims to bring the “quintessential” summer wardrobe to the Gap line which, in addition to the t-shirts, offers soft ruffled blouses and embroidered dresses for the girls, collarless dress shirts and shorts for the boys, nautical-themed pieces, beach cover-ups and summer shoes.
She explains, “For this collection I wanted to design pieces that ensure your child looks like an individual with their own style statement, a mixture of simple minimal styles and more detailed pieces to create a summer wardrobe for all your kids’ needs.”
McCartney is a long-time vegetarian, just like her father Paul, and is well-known for not using fur or leather in her collections. The Meat Free Monday organization was launched by Paul, Stella and Mary McCartney in order to raise awareness about the negative environmental impact of meat production and consumption.
