Ludacris Wants to School You
Bring the rapper Ludacris together with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and you just might have a formula for keeping at-risk students in school.
On Friday Ludacris, KMEL’s Big Von and MTV News Correspondent Sway Calloway hosted a Youth Summit and surprised 1000 high school students at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School in San Francisco with an impromptu performance cum rally for education.
“I want everybody to understand why we are here. I cannot stress education enough. I graduated high school. I don’t think people understand how important it is,” Ludacris told the students. “I always kept education first. A lot of you guys hear that the music industry is 10% music, 90% business, that’s because when I went to school I studied all about business so I knew what I was getting myself into. That’s why I’m still here after ten years because I learned all about business…you want to dream big!”
How do we know Luda was real serious?
He took his sunglasses off.
The event was the latest stop on the Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour — a multi-city event to engage students in an effort to help improve high school graduation rates and raise college completion rates.
Viacom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation created the Get Schooled Foundation to expand the national dialogue about the challenges facing our public education system. The 11-stop national tour aims to energize, inspire and engage citizens to step up to their own educational challenges by learning how to take action, identify personal goals and commit to achieving them.
Gavin Rossdale and Anna Kornikova Make Love on the Tennis Court
The rocker musician and the tennis hottie were partners on the court for the Chris Evert Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic over the weekend.
The pair arrived with little but tennis on the brain and won their match against Chris Evert and partner, actor Chris Foley, 6-4.
Rossdale told People magazine the reason his rocker wife, Gwen Stefani, wasn’t at the event was that she simply takes too long to get ready.
“‘Gwen never comes because she doesn’t do what I do,” he told the mag. “She doesn’t play tennis or get ready for events quickly.”
