Are You Ready for This Comeback? It’s Britney/Brittany on ‘Glee’

brittanytoxic.jpgOn tonight’s episode of Glee, one pop culture icon will enter her place in the halls of history, while another will officially attain the national recognition she deserves. I’m talking, of course, about the “Britney/Brittany” episode, which will center on the seminal pop music of Britney Spears and blond cheerleader Brittany who, to paraphrase Mean Girls, is almost too stupid to function.

Listen up, Lindsay Lohan, because this is how you come back from past indiscretions and falls from public favor. Judging from the pictures Ms. Spears has been tweeting and releasing from her new iPhone app (synergy!) as sneak peeks of the episode, her part, though small, will show her to be back in “Me Against the Music” form. Forget that little head shaving incident; we love her again.

Last season’s Madonna episode was epic, but it didn’t spotlight one character in particular. Thanks, however, to scene-stealing lines including “I think my cat has been reading my diary” and “Did you know dolphins are just gay sharks?” the producers realized it was time to give Heather Morris’ dim cheerleader her moment in the spotlight.

The episode, which series creator Ryan Murphy has deemed “hallucinogenic,” will feature several dream sequences during which the cast will perform Spears’ hits including “Toxic,” “Oops … I Did It Again,” “Stronger” and “Me Against the Music.” In a preview clip of the episode, Brittany and Santana pay a visit to John Stamos‘ character, who will also be introduced in this episode, and spend an anesthesia-induced trip performing “Me Against the Music.” Stamos plays the dentist dating Emma, and if he doesn’t sing “You’ll Be a Dentist” from Little Shop of Horrors at some point, I will be extremely disappointed. But I digress…

Heather Morris has been saying all along that she can sing — and she’ll get to prove that tonight, but she actually became a part of the Glee cast when she was hired during season one to teach the cast how to perform Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” dance. Morris had been performing as one of Beyonce’s two backup dancers when she took the performance to award shows and other venues. If you’re not impressed with merely hearing about it, just check out Morris’ moves here. Mark my words, a star will be born tonight (or, at the very least, a trending topic on Twitter). So set your DVR to watch the music of your middle and high school years get updated by your favorite Cheerio and insert requisite “we’re a slave 4 her” pun here.
