Google’s Street View Solves Crime

street-view.jpg

A car with a camera on top snaps hundreds of photos — 360-degrees around — to give people at home a panoramic view of various neighborhoods across the world. With that, it captures all kinds of fascinating behavior including nudes, adulterers and criminals, all thanks to Google.

Recently, the Google car was driving down a street in Brooklyn, N.Y. and took a photo of a gang hanging out on a busy corner best known for scoring drugs. It turns out that the group of guys (photo) were selling weed and heroin.

After they were spotted by Street View, the local police put surveillance cameras on the corner to catch the criminals in action. Soon after, they made six arrests, helping to get the drugs off the streets and make the neighborhood safer for children and businesses.

It is the first time Google Street View has ever helped solve crime in the US, but not in the UK, Dailymail explains. There was a photo taken by Google of a man standing in a residential driveway, which helped officials in Scotland catch the burglar who stole a car.

The photographic eye definitely has its upsides.
