Help Support Children’s Eco-Projects for Earth Day

earth.jpgEarth Day is coming up next week and so you might be wondering how you can participate (preferably without having to leave the comfort of your own home, right?)

Here’s one option that won’t require any heavy lifting, but can still have a big impact: Microsoft’s search engine Bing is hosting a photo contest to help raise awareness of environmental conservation and eco-conscious education.

In honor of Earth Day, Bing will give the first 20,000 people who vote in The Earth Day Photo Contest each day a $5 donation to put toward the classroom project of their choice on DonorsChoose.org.

DonorsChoose.org is a website that features over 1,000 environmental projects in need of funding. The site allows teachers to fundraise for classroom projects that aren’t covered by school districts. Donors can contribute as little or as much as they want to the classroom project of their choice to help kids get the best education possible (and to keep teachers from having to take the money out of their own pocket!)

Voting kicks off today (April 13) and runs through April 19 at www.earthdayphotocontest.com.

Oh, and Earth Day, which you’ll be reading more about on Tonic in the next week, is next Thursday, April 22. Then on Sunday, April 25th, the Earth Day Network and partner organizations are planning a massive climate rally on The National Mall to urge Congress to pass a strong climate bill in 2010. And you can join them!
