Häagen-Dazs All Abuzz About Honey Bees

The ExperienceProject.com (EP), an online forum of shared experiences, and Häagen-Dazs are joining forces to raise awareness about the rapid decrease in the honey bee population. Together, they’ve launched the “Help the Honey Bee” campaign. According to a Business Wire press release, “Approximately one-third of the world’s food supply is directly dependant (sic) upon honey bee pollination, so the decline of the honey bee population poses a dire risk.”

I don’t know about you, but that blew me away. One-third? Really? Apparently, a phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is depleting the honey bee population, with more than one-third of honey bee colonies dying unexpectedly in just the last three years. What is CCD? It’s when “honey bees mysteriously leave their hives and die.” Amazingly, scientists don’t have an answer yet as to why. And that’s where you come in.

The “Help the Honey Bee” campaign features different ways to contribute, including ways to provide funds for figuring out how to solve CCD, all of which you can read about at the Experience Project’s Help the Honey Bees page. You can also find out more about the campaign, which started on Aug. 4 and runs through Sept. 28, at HelpTheHoneyBees.com.
