Last September, 39-year-old Sandy lost her job at a bank in Chicago and was so broke she was forced to live out of her truck for three months with her 10-year-old son.
Child services found out and told Sandy she needed to find a better place to live or else they’d take her son away. She moved into a hotel but couldn’t afford to stay there. That’s when a completely unexpected angel came to her rescue.
Curtis Jackson (no relation to the rapper 50 Cent) has been homeless for seven years. He remembered Sandy for the kind way she always treated him when she drove past him on her way to work. He decided to give all the money he made panhandling to Sandy so she could pay for the hotel room and have someplace safe to live with her son.
“All I can do is get out there and put a sign in my hand, or put a cup in my hand and ask people to help me out, and everything I get, except maybe bus fare and something to eat, I give it to her,” he said. Despite the fact that nearly 50 to 70 cars pass him without putting some change in his bucket, Curtis was able to raise $9,000 for Sandy in six months.
“I’m out here for a purpose: to help someone, and that’s all I’m trying to do is help someone that needs help right at this moment And once she doesn’t need help anymore, I’ll move on to something else,” Curtis said.
Can anyone else hear his wings flapping in your ears?
