How Zooey Deschanel Fights Cancer While She’s Shopping

Indie actress Zooey Deschanel hosted an exclusive cocktail party this week at the store of funky jewelry designer Solange Azagury-Partridge on Rodeo Drive. It wasn’t all hedonism, though.

The event was to celebrate the new partnership between Azagury-Partridge and DKMS, the world’s largest bone marrow donor center. Fifteen percent of all merchandise sold at the party went directly to recruit bone marrow donors for leukemia patients. Win-Win!

“It was great to host the DKMS/Solange event and to be able to continue to join DKMS in the fight against leukemia,” Deschanel said. “Leukemia is the highest cause of death for children in the US and many could be saved if they were able to find a matching bone marrow donor.”

She continued, “I love jewelry and fashion, and I am honored that I was able to host an evening where shopping for beautiful things could actually help to save lives — and what could be more beautiful than that?”

Every day, thousands of patients search the national registry in hopes of finding a bone marrow donor match, but only four out of 10 will receive a transplant.
