Over the weekend, my family and I visited my brother in Baltimore, Md. We toured one of the most amazing aquariums in the United States, the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and saw many cool creatures. I highly recommend checking out this aquarium if you can because it is definitely a must see.
We were lucky enough to attend the popular dolphin show. The show succeeds in reminding the audience that it is important that everyone does his or her part to conserve our planet. About 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered with water but only one percent of it is drinkable. Since the world is mostly covered in water, it is vital that we all work together to keep it protected and clean.
Dolphins are one of the most beautiful, intelligent and graceful creatures that swim the waters of our world. They jump and twist elegantly, playing and laughing through a series of squeaks and clicks. Dolphins have the ability to learn and adapt and imitate what they see. These amazing sea mammals need to be protected from harm so that younger generations can enjoy these wonderful animals for years to come.
Oceana is one organization working to preserve the Earth’s oceans from harm. The organization advises everyone to get involved by petitioning and voting to stop offshore oil drilling and to bring chlorine plant pollution to a halt. According to Oceana, there are still four chlorine factories using obsolete technology that are responsible for mercury leakage into the oceans and consequently contaminating seafood. It is paramount that we stop these practices in order to protect sea life and ourselves from danger.
Another way to help safeguard our beautiful waters is to go here and pledge to stop trashing the ocean by following Oceana’s pledge list. The pledge states:
“I pledge not to trash the oceans by: 1. Using reusable tote or other bag at the grocery store. 2. Drinking water out of glass or non-plastic container. 3. Recycling plastics whenever possible. 4. Never littering and always disposing of trash properly. 5. Encouraging my friends and family to reduce their plastic consumption.”
Great places like the National Aquarium in Baltimore can only continue to amaze visitors with support and help from all of us. There are numerous organizations that are working tirelessly to save the magnificent and mysterious animals of the world. We all need to do our part in order to ensure these amazing animals will be around for future generations. Pledge today and start doing your part to preserve our breathtaking world.
