New Smartphone App a True Life-saver

At the risk of sounding like a commercial, a three-dollar mobile application from VisionSync called iMobile Care (available for the iPhone, Blackberry or Android-powered phones) just might be the most important download you make — certainly more important than Tetris or Gossip Junkie. The app is kind of a like a digital version of those MedicAlert bracelets that inform others about vital medical information such as what to do in case of cardiac arrest or seizure.

The application stores your critical medical data, pinpoints your location (if you so choose) and also serves up first aid information for virtually any emergency situation, according to an article by TechCrunch:

“The tool allows users to get a visual and textual explanation of how [to] deliver aid and care during emergencies and events such as accidents, bites and stings, choking, injuries, poisoning, burns, and many other critical situations.”

For anyone who’s afraid to venture into the outside world because of a serious medical condition, iMobile Care is a potentially liberating app — just so long as it’s leveraged by the kindness of strangers in the event of an emergency.

But anyone can use it.  Say you’re perfectly healthy but hit by a falling anvil on the way to work: You might be unconscious, but a passing Samaritan can see whom to call in case of emergency, while the paramedics can have quick access to your blood type (if an anvil has fallen on your head, you’ll need more blood) and find out what drug allergies you may have.

Or maybe you’re out hiking — presumably with your iPhone and a wireless connection — and your friend is bitten by a rattlesnake. You can quickly reference information about what to do until medical professionals arrive. The following demo video, although a little cheesy, provides an overview of the iPhone version of the application:

It’s worth at least checking out, because Twitter just won’t cut it when you really need help.
