‘Iron Man’ Robert Downey Jr. Saves an Extra on Set

Fanboys and girls around the world are eagerly waiting, some patiently and some impatiently for Iron Man 2, which brings back Robert Downey Jr. (who’ll first be seen as Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s version of the classic British detective series, in theaters this Christmas) in the role that catapulted him into superhero stardom. RDJ earned his real-life hero stripes when he rushed to the aid of an extra who was hurt on set this Sunday. A source from the set says the 44-year-old actor charged into a live scene yelling “Cut!” as an extra writhed in agony when a prop robot knocked him to the ground.

The man was involved in a scene in which a group fled from monstrous robots. Although the man was accidentally hit by a stuntman in an iron costume, filming continued because no one noticed he was in pain.

Downey heard the man — who ended up with a broken hip — whisper “Help, I’ve broken something.” He then called for paramedics and stayed with the man until they arrived.

I love stories like these! First Tom Cruise saving a woman hit by a car, then Justin Timberlake offering a jump to a stranded motorist, Drew Barrymore giving a homeless family food and shelter … STARS!!! … they occasionally can be just like us!
