Italian Volcano Sprays Lava, No One Is Hurt

Last night, things got hot in Italy and it wasn’t because of the Chianti.

Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano, erupted. The AP reports that lava sprayed out and flowed down the side.

Thankfully, no one was hurt, though the Fontanarossa airport in Catania did have to be closed.

The Italian Institute of Vulcanology said the volcano continued to show “rather weak” activity this morning.

The last time the 11,000-foot tall mountain, which is located on the east coast of Sicily, erupted was in 1992.
