We’ve seen our share of public service announcements in the United States. “This is Your Brain on Drugs” evolved from an over-easy egg into Rachael Leigh Cook smashing a frying pan to destroy that egg and her kitchen. Or was it the heroin she was high on? Never mind.
Today marks Melanoma Monday in the US and to honor that, we’ve enlisted our friends from the sunny isle of Australia. In 2008, they concocted a PSA that resurrects the whiteness of Powder and mixes him with the Oreo-cookie elements of Eminem. Literally named Al Bino (We kid you not. He has a MySpace page.), the rapper warns of the dangers of staying out in the sun without sunscreen and protective clothing.
A few months ago (in the height of Australia’s summer), Al Bino “remixed and reloaded” the hit with Wax Motif (He’s real too; see Facebook page) and uploaded it to YouTube. With lyrics like, “While you were checking for hoes, I was checking for moles. Hey man, it’s better than checking into the hospital,” we had to share!
