It’s been a tough year and a half for actor John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston. Their son Jett was just 16 when he died of a seizure at the family’s home in the Bahamas in January of last year. Then just this week, the couple learned that two of their dogs were struck and killed by an airport service truck at an airport in Maine last week.
But the couple finally have something to celebrate. Preston is reportedly pregnant — at the age of 47, according to People. Travolta is 56.
“It’s impossible to keep a secret … especially one as wonderful as this,” Tavolta posted on his website. “We want to be the first to share this great news with everyone that we are expecting a new addition to our family. Love, John, Kelly and Ella.”
The couple also have a 10-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu.
Of course, it’s incredibly rare for women to conceive naturally over the age of 40, but the couple have not released any further details. However, the couple did reportedly confirmed directly with People that Preston is “pregnant.”
Travolta and Preston have been big supporters of several children’s charities, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and have been known to hold charity screenings of their films. In 2008, a charity screening of Bolt in their hometown of Ocala, Fla, raised $55,000 for the cause, to which the couple added an extra $10,000 of their own money, according to Look to the Stars.
Preston has also been vocal about the issue of over-medication in children, advocating against schools that pressure students into unnecessary treatment for Attention Deficit Disorder. She is also a board member of the Children’s Health Environmental Coalition.
