ESPN Challenges Jonas Brothers to Charity Softball Game

jonasbrothers.jpgSeriously, do the Jonas Brothers ever sleep? Kevin just got married, Joe just returned from a trip to Africa and Nick just completed his run in the West End production of Les Miserables. Oh, and they’re about to begin their massive summer tour to promote their new Disney Channel movie, Camp Rock 2. Yet when the Jonai were guests on ESPN radio’s “Fantasy Focus” podcast, they added yet another gig to their summer agenda.

The brothers casually mentioned their softball team, the “Road Dogs” to the hosts. Never ones to back away from a challenge (even though one wasn’t explicitly made), fantasy sports guru Matthew Berry immediately said that the Jonas’ team should play ESPN’s team, the “G.O.A.T.S” (that would be an acronym for “Greatest of All Time). The Jonases agreed, as long as the game would be entirely for a good cause.

On August 13, the brothers will be up around 5 a.m. to appear on Good Morning America in New York City. Then, while en route to a concert at 8 p.m in Hartford, Conn., Kevin, Joe, Nick and the rest of the Road Dogs — their band members and road crew — will stop in New Britain, Conn., to take on the G.O.A.T.S at noon. ESPN’s lineup includes Berry, “Mike and Mike in the Morning” and SportsCenter host Mike Greenberg, former NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley and former MLB player Eduardo Perez. Yes, two former professional athletes. You may want to rest up for this game, boys.

According to ESPN Radio’s website, tickets to the game will be free; however, donations will be accepted to benefit the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center‘s A Brighter Hope campaign. This campaign will help fund an expanded, state-of-the-art child-friendly center for children with cancer and blood disorders.

The game will also promote the “X the Text” campaign, which is run by Allstate, the Road Dogs official partner. At the game, Allstate will be encouraging Jonas Brothers fans to take the pledge to stop texting while driving. The pledge can also be taken online on the campaign’s Facebook page.

Tickets for the Jonas vs. ESPN softball game are available at the New Britain stadium box office or by calling (860) 224-8383 (limit six tickets per order). The pre-game entertainment, which will be provided by Vermont band Burnham and teen band Fyve will start at 9:30 a.m., and the main event starts at noon. It promises to be a great showdown for a good cause.
