Kid Rock Gets Brainy

It looks like the Rock N Roll Jesus is ready to help heal.

Kid Rock has agreed to headline a benefit concert next month for the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF), a nonprofit organization that uses music therapy treatments to improve a person’s physical, emotional and neurological health. The Music Has Power Benefit Concert will take place Sept. 2 at the club Terminal 5 in upper west Manhattan.

For someone who claims to be “straight out the trailer,” this organization might sounds a bit new agey for the self-proclaimed white trash rocker. In reality, it just goes to show how successful IMNF has been so far in its innovative efforts. Founded with help from neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks, the Bronx-based Institute uses advanced scientific study and research to find ways that music can impact one’s brain function. Though it became a foundation in ’95, the organization’s research started many years before that as part of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services. Kid Rock joins a long list of individuals who’ve performed benefit concerts and made guest appearances for the organization, including the Beastie Boys, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Dustin Hoffman, Moby, Rob Thomas, the B-52s, Kris Kristofferson, Rufus Wainright, Bruce Hornsby and Vanessa Carlton.

American Express is offering presale tickets on Wednesday, and the show goes on sale to the general public at noon on Saturday. Tickets to the benefit are $100 each.
