For nearly 130 years, Kroger grocery stores have been involved in the fight against hunger. Barney Kroger started the tradition in 1983 and the company is still helping families put food on the table today.
Kroger’s Cincinnati/Dayton division will donate a check for its latest contribution today. Nearly $200,000 will be shared with Freestore/Foodbank of Cincinnati, Shared Harvest of Butler County, The Foodbank of Dayton, Your Father’s Table of Wilmington and Second Harvest of Clark and Champaign Counties.
“Kroger continues to focus attention on ending hunger in America”, said Geoff Covert, president of the Cincinnati/Dayton marketing division, in Cincinnati. “We deeply believe it is our responsibility, not only as a corporation, but as concerned individuals, to ensure that no man, woman, or child goes to bed hungry at night.”
The money was contributed through the Bringing Hope to the Table Campaign, for which Kroger and many of the company’s manufacturers joined together, along with Cincinnati Television Together and the Division Recycling program. However, it was customer support that drove the collection. Through their purchases of select items, the money was raised to give to the foodbanks.
Bringing Hope to the Table is an annual campaign in partnership with Feeding America, of which Kroger is a founding member. Kroger and its family of stores will donate $3 million plus another $1 million in products to food banks. Since its inception, the program has contributed $20 million to the fight against hunger in America.
Covert added, “Our support of, and participation in, events like Bringing Hope to the Table and Cincinnati Television Together gives our customers, associates, and vendors the chance to help families right in their own neighborhoods.”
The check will be presented July 21 at the Liberty Township Marketplace Kroger in Ohio.
