Leo Doesn’t Play While His Lady Is Away

Leonardo DiCaprio On Good Behavior While Girlfriend Is Away

With all the stories we are hearing these days about cheating hubbies and boyfriends it’s nice to hear about a guy (and that guy happens to be Leonardo DiCaprio) who can have a chill night out with his buddies without indulging in any bad behavior while girlfriend, Bar Refaeli, is away in Spain.

In fact, Leo completely ignored the ladies while clubbing at Las Palmas in Paris with pal Lukas Haas this week. Is it a little sad that we have to celebrate what should be the norm in man behavior? Maybe, but if positive reinforcement works, we’ll take it.

ethan_zohn.jpgEthan Zohn and Soccer Will One Day Save The World

It’s no secret that former Survivor winner, philanthropist and Tonic contributor Ethan Zohn loves soccer. Ethan has traveled the world playing, watching and coaching the sport. But what is new is that Ethan is using soccer as a way to educate children about the world.

In his new children’s books, Soccer World: South Africa and Soccer World: Mexico (the first two in a series of six), Ethan uses soccer as a lens to show kids (ages 7-9) the world. In each of the books cartoon Ethan flies into the country and has a series of educational adventures. We took a couple of minutes to ask him why kids books? Why soccer? And why cartoon Ethan’s calves look so big?

Tonic: Why use soccer as a teaching tool?

Ethan: Soccer is the world’s most popular sport. It has the ability to break down cultural stereotypes and give instant access to community. I created the books to excite kids about learning through the sport of soccer.

Tonic: We know you’re a total kid at heart. Is that why you decided on children’s books?

Ethan: I had always wanted to write a kids’ book.I have used soccer to see the world and I want to be able to show kids the world through soccer.

Tonic: What kind of editorial control did you get over cartoon you?

Ethan: In the first round my calves weren’t big enough so I had them make me with giant calves.

Rachel Roy is best known for her fierce runway fashion, but now she is giving other folks the chance to strut their stuff. The Rachel Roy team is offering three down on their luck individuals $1,000 grants to improve their lives. “The Pay it forward idea I saw on Oprah’s website and was inspired by the notion of what that means,” Rachel told us.”

The winners will receive a FLIP cam along with their grant to capture how they use the money. Rachel, who will select the winners herself, will post the videos on her website. Roy hopes that each grant will not only change lives, but also inspire someone else to pay it forward.

sara_rue_crop.jpgThings That Are Just Plain Good In Celebrity-Land This Week

Good Weight Gain: Dennis Quaid gained 35 pounds to play former President Bill Clinton in the HBO film, The Special Relationship. How’d he do it? McDonald’s every day. I can’t decide if that is delish or disgust?

Good Weight Loss: Actress Sara Rue was adorable before she lost 40 pounds as the spokeswoman for Jenny Craig, but good things have happened after she dropped the poundage. Rue says she feels way healthier and is planning to run a half marathon with fellow Jenny Craiger Valerie Bertinelli. We have to agree with Bertinelli who said “Look at her! She’s freakin’ gorgeous.” Indeed.

Good Sweating: Katie Couric and Kyra Sedgwick were spotted getting a wicked tough spin on at Manhattan spin studio FlyWheel. Power workouts for some power ladies.

Good Hair: Betty White has had the same hairstyle for the better part of a century. Now that is a lesson in hair loyalty!
