LexisNexis Lends a Hand to Unemployed Attorneys

Lawyers are by no means immune to layoffs in this economy. As of June 14, according to the legal blog LawShucks.com, which tracks layoffs from law firms, nearly 5,000 lawyers have been let go from major law firms since the beginning of 2008.

LexisNexis, a global provider of content-enabled workflow solutions to professionals that includes those in the legal field, has decided to provide some assistance. It recently launched the “Lend a Hand” program to help unemployed attorneys. According to the website, the program provides free resources such as:

  • A six-month profile featured on Lawyers.com and Martindale.com, which provides lawyers with the opportunity to promote themselves;
  • Access to Martindale-Hubbell Connected, an online community for legal professionals; and,
  • Access to Martindale-Hubbell Career Center, which along with providing job listings also includes thousands of legal articles.

United States-based lawyers that are unemployed and who worked for a law firm that had more than 50 lawyers are eligible to participate. The program runs through the end of August 2009.
