We all know losing weight isn’t easy, but Rosemarie Jeanpierre reminds us that the results can be truly life-changing. And not just physically.
“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been,” Rosemarie told the TODAY show, where she was instituted as the newest member of their Joy Fit Club.
The old Rosemarie was typically not happy, and like many people who struggle with food issues, she used it to numb her emotional pain. The 45-year-old Los Angeles nurse says she was almost always overweight and dreaded going to school, where she was routinely teased and bullied.
“[Eating] made me feel better when I was feeling down,” Rosemarie explained. “I would stuff my emotional hurt with food.”
Her former daily diet included four fried eggs, four hot dogs, four pieces of bacon and two glasses of milk for breakfast; two plates of rice, five pieces of pork and two cups of ice cream for lunch; and two plates of rice, fried beef, three bowls of vegetables and several chocolate bars for dinner. Yikes!
But a seemingly routine visit to her doctor shocked her into changing. “My doctor said that I was pre-diabetic and my cholesterol was critically high — I was so scared of what could become of me,” Rosemarie told TODAY. “It was at that moment that I decided I had to lose weight.”
The very next day Rosemarie headed to the library and educated herself on proper nutrition and exercise. She immediately began eating much healthier and developing an exercise routine that included using a treadmill and weights. Through discipline and family support she managed to lose 110 pounds in 18 months and the new Rosemarie emerged.
“My lifestyle gave birth to a new me,” she gushed.
You go, girl!
