MaLinda Sapp died Sept. 9, 2010 after an 18-month battle with colon cancer. Today, the Resurrection Life Church, a neighbor of the Lighthouse Full Life Center Church (that her husband Marvin Sapp founded), held what they called her “going home service.” More than 2,000 guests mourned the psychologist, including Rev. Jesse Jackson.
“This is a test of our faith,” he told those gathered. “We are pained in the transition, but we rejoice in the destination.”
Her children Marvin II, Mikaila and Madisson read the iconic poem Footprints, while her husband remembered her in song. Those who’d like to remember Sapp can make a donation to the Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology (GREAAT), the school for which she was the executive director and chancellor.
