Marcel the Shell with Shoes On – Tiny Voice, Big Laughs

So, basically, I’m obsessed with Marcel the Shell with Shoes On.

I’ve been watching him every morning with breakfast, and then usually once or twice throughout the day. This hasn’t happened since I was 7 and got a VHS copy of The Little Mermaid for my birthday.

It’s not that Marcel is visually cute. Marcel is not cute. Marcel, if anything, is weird-looking. It’s not that his mouth disappears when he’s not talking or that he hang glides on a Dorito. No. The beauty of Marcel is the tiny, little voice; so expressive and vulnerable, yet so self-possessed.

“I like myself and I have a lot of other great qualities, as well,” says Marcel the shell.

This little stop motion video by Dean Fleischer-Camp is proof that you don’t need a big budget to make something creative and absolutely hilarious.
