If anyone out there thinks that microfinance is a dry and nerdy aspect of international development, get ready for the second annual microfinance photo contest. The online event is hosted by Microfinance Insights, a print magazine dedicated to the international microfinance sector.
The contest aims to provide the magazine’s readers with new, engaging or inspiring images of the world of microfinance. This year’s round, titled “The Global Shades of Development,” asks photographers to illustrate “how people from different countries with varied cultures use microfinance, what they do for a living, their aspirations and hopes.”
Photos can be entered into five categories: color/vibrancy, emerging markets, overcoming challenges, social enterprises and altered photos. Web site visitors can vote on their favorite entries in the photo gallery, and a panel of three judges will also rank the work.
The contest will award a “best performance winner,” “judge’s winner” and “viewers’ winner,” all of which will appear in the November/December 2009 issue of the magazine and the “Best of 2009″ issue.
The best performance photographer will also receive a Kodak Digital Photoframe, and all winning images will be displayed at Zenzi Bandraat restaurant in Mumbai, India, where a launch event will be followed by a three-week exhibition.
