You may have recently seen the video of 18-year-old pop star Miley Cyrus smoking a (shockingly) legal herb called salvia out of a bong. Her friend filmed it and — surprise! — the tape ended up with celeb gossip site TMZ.
Since the drug has hallucinogenic effects, Cyrus was caught laughing, talking nonsense and pretty much acting like a big goof. It was only a matter of time before Saturday Night Live made something funny out of it. Unfortunately Cyrus herself did not grace the stage with her presence, but last weekend’s sketch highlighted the scandal on their version of the “Miley Cyrus Show.”
SNL’s Vanessa Bayer, playing Miley, refers to the situation as her very serious five-minute drug problem. She tries to make it right by stating the moral of the story: “Don’t let your friend videotape you when you’re doing stuff,” and explains that she did an after-school special on the dangers of drug use.
The skit wraps up with the fake Cyrus screaming, “Say no to drugs, ya’ll!” We really hope we hear the real Miley saying this soon so young people who idolize her will get the message.
