Neurotoxic Lipstick? WTF?

Annie smooch“Hey Annie,” you might say, “Why are you and that lady making out with that piece of canvas?”

And I’d say “That lady is EcoStiletto Founder and CEO Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff, and it’s because I’m protesting!”

Remember when we were listing the poisonous things in batteries in “Coolest Batteries Ever,” and we mentioned lead?

Smooch 2“Lead is that same stuff your mom freaked out about when she saw you peeling paint off of everything in the ’80s.”

Well, guess what? It’s in your lipstick. On your mouth. And on your mom’s mouth. It’s a neurotoxin.

Before we start making “maybe that’s why my mom’s crazy” jokes (oops), let’s talk about the solution. The smart kids over at Teens Turning Green have a petition going called Lips Against Lead. You can sign it online here. While you’re there, you can also download instructions on how to set up a movement for safe lipstick in your own community — they’ll send you a whole kit, including safe lipsticks for petitioners to use when they “sign.”

Rachel and I “signed” at the Bagtrends Green Arm Candy Party. There was also a table of safe makeup at the Bagtrends party — visit NatureOfBeauty.com for some lead-free makeup hookups.

Be sure and tell any young ladies you know about Teens Turning Green and Teens for Safe Cosmetics!
