If you love your work life, chances are you’ll be happy at home, too.
The reasons aren’t too complex: A pleasant day at work translates to a good mood at home. A good mood at home leads to a congenial family life.
Of course, no one is happy at work all day every day. But according to Science Daily, a Kansas State University study shows that “invigorated and dedicated” employees tend to have the happiest home lives overall. Interestingly, the study found that longer work hours weren’t necessarily a problem: if the employee is happy during those hours, they take that positive energy home.
The research group makes the point that there’s a big difference between being “engaged” and “dedicated” at work and being a workaholic or work addict. Overworking, or focusing on work to the exclusion of outside interests, actually leads to mental and physical health issues.
Their recommendations to employers: Offer opportunities for your employees to engage with one another, and provide help in balancing work and home priorities. A positive outlook at work creates a happy home — and vice versa.
