Combine Foursquare and iPhone Maps and you get Google Latitude. First introduced by Google back in February 2009, it was rejected as an iPhone app for over a year, explains Apple Insider. Not anymore. Starting today you can download it for free at the App Store.
Google Latitude allows you to see exactly where your friends are and vice-versa. Unlike Foursquare, though, you don’t have to check in at different locations. Instead, you have the option to automatically update your status throughout the day.
It should be enormously helpful if you’re trying to meet up with friends at a party (that is, if you’re invited), since it also provides directions from where you are to where your friends are.
Of course, you are exposing information which could potentially be disastrous if you’re trying to avoid an ex, an annoying friend, your parents or the CIA. The good thing is you can manually choose who you want to see your location.
