Newman’s Own Foundation Grants $750K for School in Kenya

Newman’s Own Foundation – the organization started by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman – today announced a three-year, $750,000 grant to Shining Hope for Communities, a non-profit organization serving the people of Kibera, a slum outside Nairobi, Kenya.

The grant from Newman’s Own Foundation has already helped to fund a new building that expands Shining Hope’s Kibera School for Girls, the first tuition-free school for girls in the community. The building includes twenty-two classrooms and effectively doubles the school’s capacity to educate girls in Kibera.

Newman’s Own Foundation has made contributions to Shining Hope totaling nearly $1 million since 2010.  Shining Hope for Communities is one of many nonprofit organizations serving Kenya that have received funding from Newman’s Own Foundation. The foundation has provided close to $2 million in grants to various nonprofits working in-country.
