‘Til Undeath Do We Part

On Saturday night an Ohio couple vowed to howl at the moon together until the end of time. And don’t worry, that’s a good thing.

To say that Jack Holsinger, 61, and Connie Spitznagel, 44, had a non-traditional wedding is to put it mildly, but we have to admit it definitely seemed like a whole lot of fun. The couple decided on a Halloween-themed bash, and planned every detail down to the last ghoul.

The groom arrived at the ceremony in a hearse and six costumed pallbearers carried his coffin to the “altar” where Holsinger, dressed as a vampire, awaited his blushing bride – who was dressed as — what else? — a vampire, too.

A minister dressed as Jason from the horror film Friday the 13th officiated as they exchanged vows, promising to love each other and haunt with each other for all eternity. They were cheered on by their attendants, including the best man dressed as Jack Sparrow and the maid of honor dressed as the Bride of Frankenstein (not that she tried to take anything away from the real bride). After the vows the couple skipped the first kiss, instead opting for an initial bite on the neck.

“I thought it was kind of crazy,” maid-of-honor Kim Spitznagel, sister of the bride, told The Chronicle-Telegram of Ohio, said of the affair. “But neat.”

Derek Vitas, who owns Rockin-R-Ranch, where the wedding took place, concocted the kooky wedding plan. He also owns the nearby America Wilderness Campground, where the couple met.

Spitznagel said she loved the idea immediately. “It’s mysterious,” she said. “It’s different. It’s spooky. Halloween gives people a chance to be something different.”

Her open-minded groom was just happy to let his bride do what she wanted. “She had a common-law marriage the first time around, so she never really got a wedding. It’s what she wanted and it’s about her. It’s her time.”

After the ceremony the bride and groom made their way through a haunted house, before a reception on the campground where they met.

Yes, this wedding was definitely left of center, but even with all the fake blood, coffins and neck bites it was pretty sweet, too.
