Mashable, which calls itself “The Social Media Guide,” is currently running the Open Web Awards, Social Media Edition. It’s the third annual competition that “covers major innovations in web technology and achievements in Social Media,” according to the “About” page.
This international competition has seven sections, with 52 total categories that include TwitPic of the Year, Best Local Blog and Most Creative Use of Facebook Connect. Due to the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, there are sections specific to each site, with four categories devoted to Facebook and six to Twitter.
Nominations run through this Sunday, November 15, so make sure your own choices are represented. You can check out the list of the 500 leading nominees here. Once all the nominees are collected, the top five nominees in each category will be selected and people will pick the winner. Voting will take place from November 18 to December 13, and the winner will be announced on Tuesday, December 15.
To start nominating, you can sign in via Twitter or Facebook Connect.
