The beginning of the 2010 season hasn’t been kind to the Boston Red Sox. They started by winning only four of their first 13 games, but they’ve since turned things around and are only six games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. You might not blame the team’s loyal fans, better known as Red Sox Nation, for drowning their sorrows, but now they might well have reason to instead toast to the team’s recent successes. And when they do, don’t be surprised if they do so with Jacoby Ellsbury or Josh Beckett. Well, their wines, that is.
According to NESN, the ZinfandEllsbury and the Chardon-K were introduced on Tuesday at the House of Blues, and Ellsbury himself attended. The wines are the newest members of the Charity Wines family. The group joins with sports figures, celebrities and other notables who offer the use of their likeness, to create wines. When the wines are bought, nearly 70 percent of the pre-tax profits go to the charity (or charities) the person has selected.
Ellsbury chose three different charities — Project Bread, The Ellsbury-Read Character Strength Project and the Navajo Relief Fund — to help out, while Beckett chose his own foundation. So far, more than $1.3 million has been raised for charity courtesy of Charity Wines.
You don’t even have to be a Red Sox fan, as other baseball stars are featured. Or if baseball isn’t your speed, you can find football, hockey and wrestling wines. You can learn more about Charity Wines here.
