Robin Adair and her boyfriend were driving along a highway in Belfair, Wash. on Sunday evening when they noticed a house on fire and heard frantic screaming. Rather than dial 911, Adair leaped into action.
“There were flames on the front porch, and they were starting to go actually over the house at this point, and the screaming was terrible,” Adair told King News. “I mean, you could just hear the kids screaming, the mother screaming.”
Katrina Eash had managed to get three of her four children out of the family’s burning home, but her 11-month-old baby girl was still asleep in her crib. The window to the baby’s room was too high for Eash to reach and so all she could do was scream for help.
“I just kept on screaming, ‘My baby’s in here, my baby’s in here, my baby’s in here!’” Eash told King News.
Together, Adair and Eash were able to rescue the infant, with Eash boosting Adair into the window.
“That was combined mother bear instinct right there,” Adair told King News. “As soon as I heard there was a baby in there, nothing was stopping me.”
“I’m just thankful that I’ve got my girls, and that’s all that matters,” an emotional Eash told King News. “They’re very precious to me. I love them with all my heart and I don’t know what I would do without them.”
